Towers continued…

Our towers! What have we learned about building towers so far?

Lots of our towers were leaning, and I bet a lot of them would break pretty easily… so with that in mind: what do you think would happen if we had taken the towers outside into the parking lot? Can you think of anything that might have kept our towers from standing up very well? Do you think they would stand up if they were HERE? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Az2eTuVy4e0

Name: Tower 1: I predict... Tower 2: I predict... Result: Why?

Why wouldn't THIS tower fall down?

What are some things that we might be able to do to fix both of these towers to make them stronger or make them stay in place?? - anchor it down - put things inside to make it heavier - what about these materials? What materials would make a strong box than this cardboard one? - These are all the types of things that we will have to keep in mind as we keep building more and more structures. We will look at ways to REINFORCE structures and we will keep finding out useful tricks to try that should make our buildings stronger!
