Vocabulary ( Passive transport) Passive Transport-The movement of materials across the cell membrane without using cellular energy. Concentration Gradient- region along which the density of a chemical substance increases or decreases. Diffusion- particles move from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. Osmosis- Water crossing a selectively permeable membrane. Hypotonic-Below strength ( solute) Hypertonic-Above strength ( solute) Isotonic-Same strength ( solute) Aquaporin- Channel proteins that allow water to pass through cell membranes
