World war I posters October 3, 2018

Reminders Next up: Find Style Guides online and bring example to class on Monday. Pin down the subset of posters your group wants to do (if you haven’t yet) and start thinking about who will do what. END OF CLASS on Monday, October 8: Group Contract Due Presentations October 22 and 24 Final draft due October 28 in D2L

Thoughts on Museum visit What did you find interesting about our visit and/or the readings? What struck you? Surprised you?

role of posters in wwi? As you understand it, what is the role of posters in WWI? Did they function in any way to any media we use today to sell large scale ideas?

Rhetorical strategies In groups, look at the grouping of posters I gave you and answer the following questions: Define this genre of posters. Genre: a category of texts, characterized by similarities in form, style, or subject matter. What rhetorical appeals do these posters have in common? WHY do you think the poster designers use these appeals? What rhetorical appeals differ between them? WHY do you think they differ?

If time…. We will watch part of the video from today’s reading to examine more rhetorical strategies your group might think about for your own posters. FOR MONDAY: find one style guide online you like and bring it (or link to it) to class.
