FAFSA – Creating Opportunities Efforts in the past, present, and future. Spring Conference April 7 – 10, 2019

Spring Conference April 7 – 10, 2019 Why complete the FAFSA? The cost of attending college or obtaining a postsecondary credential can be a major limiting factor for prospective students. This is especially true for first time and minority students who have little or no experience with higher education processes and requirements. Completing the FAFSA is a critical step to gaining access to higher education, reducing student debt, and opening the door for prospective students. Spring Conference April 7 – 10, 2019

Finish the FAFSA Project - 2014 In May 2014, the U.S. Department of Education asked state education leaders to assist all districts and high schools in their states by providing access to FAFSA completion information that helps high school counselors more effectively utilize time and resources in their work with students and also to help connect low-income, first generation, and underserved students with higher education. School systems opt into the program. DPI provides CFNC info about seniors and data matching is done with FAFSA status. The output is designed to help principals and counselors be aware of students’ interaction with the FAFSA process so that they can better support students as they complete the FAFSA.
