Warm-up: Quick Write In your honest opinion, why do you think students plagiarize on assignments? Do you think plagiarizing helps or hurts a student’s academic success? Why? How do you think plagiarizing affects a teacher’s view of a student?

Examples of Plagiarism/Cheating Copying a friend’s homework Copying something from ANY book, magazine, or internet source without saying the writing came from someone else—even if you change a few words Turning in your or a friend’s old assignment done for another class as a new assignment Asking a friend to write or edit your assignment Running your assignment through a grammar checker (spell-check is okay) Writing new answers on homework during class discussion
