The Catholic church has opposed abuse committed through child labour. Pope Leo XIII condemned the practice in his first social encyclical “Rerum Noverum” in 1981. Canada’s Role Participates in campaigns against Child Labour, (World Day Against Child Labour.) Supports the application of international standards that will protect kids from exploitation. Works with the International Labour Organization. Works with developing countries through its Securing the Future for Children and Youth Strategy. This includes support for education of young children. As well Canada is trying to get those in developing countries proper documentation that could help prevent exploitation, and allow for access to health and education resources.
