#37 Journal 10/22 “There is a time in a boy’s life when the sweetness is pounded out of him; and tenderness, and the ability to show what he feels, is gone.” Consider this quote by writer Norah Vincent. Defend, challenge or qualify. Use evidence from your readings, observations, and personal experience. Please have homework Journal out

Tone Analysis Activity Recognizing argument structures depends often on TONE. Think more specifically about the range of tones by completing this activity.

Small groups: Look on the back of your tone sheet. Find the number. If you are a 1,2 or 3, you will discuss “Mind over Muscle.” If you are a 4,5 or 6, you will discuss “Putting Down the Gun.” Find your classmates with the same number. Bring your textbook, your rhetorical triangles, and your tone analysis sheet.

Turn in rhetorical triangles, small group discussion guide, and tone analysis sheet.

Reminder: Reminder: Awakening- by Friday, October 24: Read through Chapter 14. Quiz and Socratic Seminar. Bring your Awakening Text to class- we will have time to read the first 10 minutes Turn in rhetorical triangles, small group discussion guide, and tone analysis sheet
