UNIT II : Space & Systems

Space & Systems Humans have been, are being and will continue to be influenced by social, political, economic and environmental factors. These factors shape our activities and our environment. They’ve contributed to everything from our settlement patterns and how/where we live to the spread of AIDS.

Space & Systems Within these factors, we can find the answers to, for example, why Haitians face the struggles that they do and why small-town Saskatchewan continues to disappear.

Space & Systems The most important thing to remember, in terms of this unit, is that, because of the size and diversity of our planet, the factors mentioned above can and do vary dramatically from place to place over time.

Space & Systems These disparities have forced humans to adapt to their surroundings and situations, yet they’ve also helped to create the ideas of a Developed and Developing World. In short, the Earth’s different ecumenes (inhabited lands) change over space and time.
