Bariatric Embolization of Arteries for the Treatment of Obesity (BEAT Obesity) Trial: Results at 1 Year Bariatric embolization is a feasible procedure that was performed with 100% technical success in 20 adults with severe obesity. Bariatric embolization is well tolerated, with a major complication rate of 0%. Bariatric embolization can produce substantial weight loss (ie, mean excess weight loss of 11% ± 10% at 12 months). Participants who underwent bariatric embolization showed evidence of metabolic change, with decreases in hemoglobin A1c and total cholesterol (independent of weight loss) and increases in high-density lipoprotein levels. 41-year-old with successful embolization of the gastric fundus via the left gastric artery (arrow) and the left gastro-epiploic artery.
