Grade 12 Essential Math Measurement and Statistics Central Tendency Grade 12 Essential Math Measurement and Statistics
Central Tendency Measures of central tendency are ways to describe a set (or group) of data Mean: the average. Includes all data. Median: the middle number. Mode: the “most popular” number Range: how far from minimum to maximum
Mean To calculate the mean: Add up all of the values Divide by the # of values you have
Median To calculate the median: Line up the values in order from smallest to largest Find the middle value If there are two middle values, add them up and divide by two.
Mode To calculate the mode: Count how many times each value appears. The mode is the value that appears the most (the most popular value)
Range To calculate range: Find the maximum and minimum values Subtract: 𝑟𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑒=𝑚𝑎𝑥−𝑚𝑖𝑛
Example Calculate the mean, median, mode and range of these numbers: 45 48 61 23 56 89 22 18 49 66 38 12 99 17 Calculate the mean, median, mode and range of these numbers:
