SHEEPDOGS By David Walsh

INFORMATION A sheepdog is a dog used to herd or guard sheep. It has to be very active and intelligent. They are trained to work alone and together. They also work well with horses They can live anywhere between 10 and 20 years depending on the breed.

Many Breeds A wide variety of breeds are used as sheepdogs. Collies, mastiffs (pictured), retrievers, corgis, koolies and great Pyrenees are also types of sheepdogs.

Competitions In addition to being working animals, some sheepdogs participate in competitions and trials.

Active and High Energy A lot of breeds of sheepdog are not suitable as pets. They require a lot of work. They are very demanding and high energy.
