What’s Happening in First Grade Campfire News Week of September 17-21 What’s Happening in First Grade Spanish Phrase of the Week is: ! No te rindas ! (Don’t Give Up) Inquiry into Math: We will continue our Cluster 1 study . This week, we will begin our work with understanding, collecting and organizing data. Inquiry into Literacy: We will share the story Chester’s Way by Kevin Henkes. We will use the key details in the story to help identify how characters feel and change throughout the story. Respect is an important theme for this story and ties in nicely with the PYP. We will study Letterland Unit 2: Sorting words according to rhyme patterns –am, -an, and –ack. W will have our test on Friday. Writer’s Workshop/Social Studies: We will spend the next few weeks during Writer’s Workshop developing an understanding of what a narrative is and will learn how a writer plans for one and begins the process of writing one! Narrative writing is a major focus of our writing for the first quarter. Inquiry into Science: We will continue our unit of study on Rocks and Minerals. We are learning why water, soil and rocks are so important to us! Camp Stone Email: stephanie_stone@iss.k12.nc.us Phone: (704) 439-4077 Around the Campfire Thank you for all that you are doing to support our learning! Scholastic News payment of $7.50 is still due. Please send in or make your online payment! This is a wonderful resource for us! Some of us are still in need of ear buds and a composition notebook for our STEM class. Please be sure that you are going through your child’s Take Home Folder everyday and they are bringing it back to school with them! We have snack time everyday and your child is encouraged to bring a healthy snack to eat and water only, to drink! PYP Corner Our Current Unit of Study: How We Organize Ourselves/Central Idea: Procedures help organize us and give us structure Lines of Inquiry: How we resolve conflict/Importance of rules and consequences/Ways we are organized Let’s Take Action: As we continue in our current unit of study, we are developing lots of inquiries related to rules.
