Do Now: Success *Answer all questions in complete sentences unless otherwise specified. Please number your responses in your notebook. 1. List as many characteristics of successful people that you can think of. 2. In your opinion, what does it mean to be successful? 3. Why do you think society emphasizes being successful?

Success Objective: To help students see that individuals have personal definitions of success and that the only one they need to meet is their own.

Who is Successful to You? Name some people who you think are successful. Is the accumulation of wealth, power, or material possessions a sign of success?

How will you feel Successful? You must define your success personally. What success is to Lebron James, may not be necessarily successful to you. Example: Winning a marathon could be a success for a world class distance runner, but finishing the marathon might be a success to you. Living up to your own definition of success will make you truly feel successful!

Your Definition May Change! Your definition of success might change as you get older. Example: A new parent who formerly defined success as getting ahead at work may decide that raising a happy, health child is more important. Someone who is seriously ill may redefine success as getting and staying well.

Life Lesson from John Wooden ESPN has ranked John Wooden as the greatest coach of all time amongst ALL coaches in all sports. Take the next 18 minutes to listen to a legend define success. John Wooden Ted Talk

Workbook Turn to Activity 21 (big number) in your workbook. Write your own definition (in pencil) and sign your definition. Truly BELIEVE in your definition as it will help you start your path to a more fulfilling life.
