Series Circuits

What is a series circuit? A complete circuit with only one path for the current to take.

How many different pathways can the current take? 1

What are the disadvantages? A burn out breaks the circuit Add resistors increases the resistance which reduces the flow of electrons Add resistors causes lights to dim, fans to run slower, etc.

What are the advantages? Simple Easy to build Easy to design

What happens when you add more resistance? The flow of electrons (current) decreases Less light, less movement, etc.

Is your house wired in series? NO WAY!!! How do you know for sure? When I turn the light on in the kitchen, the lights in the living room don’t dim.
