Bell Ringer: Wednesday, February 1st Reminder: Did you finish up the study guide questions for the reading yesterday? Be sure to stay on top of these. Questions to answer for today: What do you think of Bernard’s newfound popularity, courtesy of John? Do you think Bernard can keep this up for much longer? Why do you think people in the World State are so interested in John, but not Linda?

Annotate… I’ll give you a few minutes to do this… Mark things that you find interesting: visually or textually intriguing.

John’s “Brave New World”... is it shaping up like he expected it to?

What did you think? What did you annotate? What did you find interesting? Do you think this is an accurate depiction of Huxley’s argument so far? Do you agree with what’s on the page?

Soma... John encounters soma, as Linda is drugged heavily. 154-155 Why does he react so adversely? Would John have cause to be similarly disgusted by our world?

Bokanovsky’s Process and Mass Production... At the factory, John sees identical batches of workers creating helicopter parts. 159-160 Would John have cause to be similarly disgusted by our world?

The “Feelies”... Lenina takes John to one of these extravagant productions of sight, sound, and feeling; he is less than impressed. 169-170 Would John have cause to be similarly disgusted by our world?
