7-2 The Pythagorean Theorem and Its Converse Most of the information about Pythagoras was written centuries after he lived, so very little is known about him. Some question whether he contributed much to mathematics because of the secretive nature of his school. It was the custom of its students to attribute everything to their teacher. Many accomplishments credited to Pythagoras, including the Pythagorean theorem, may have actually been accomplishments of his colleagues and successors.
