Presidents’ Term Each term of the president is 4 years. Based on the 22nd amendment, a president can serve no more than 2 terms or 10 years. How can you serve 10 years? 22nd amendment was made because of Franklin D Roosevent who served 4 terms. Prior to Roosevelt, it was only a tradition to step down after 2 terms
