Transformations Samantha Nelson

TEKS of Transformations for 2nd Grade create two-dimensional shapes based on given attributes, including number of sides and vertices; classify and sort three-dimensional solids, including spheres, cones, cylinders, rectangular prisms (including cubes as special rectangular prisms), and triangular prisms, based on attributes using formal geometric language; classify and sort polygons with 12 or fewer sides according to attributes, including identifying the number of sides and number of vertices; compose two-dimensional shapes and three-dimensional solids with given properties or attributes

Transformations Transformations is the term used to describe changing a shape using the motions of turning, flipping, or sliding.

Examples of Transformations Three terms are used to describe turn, flip or slide, which is Rotation, Reflection and Translation

Interactive Transformed figure https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKtJd1hkI9k

Translations To translate a shape we are simple sliding the object. We do not rotate or flip the object. Every point on the object is moved the same distance

Examples of Translation

Interactive Translated Figure https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKtJd1hkI9k

Reflection Reflection id flipping and object, image or shape. It could be viewed as if it is seen in a mirror.

Example of reflection

Interactive Reflected Figures https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J166-6BUR9s

Rotation Moving an object in a circular motion, using the central point as the pin point that does not move and all other points rotate around it.

Example of Rotation

Interactive Rotated Figures https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-sQdTuuPrY
