Presentation transcript:

Warm-Up Questions: Monday 1/22 Discuss an occasion when you felt different or didn’t fit in. How di you react? Did you try harder to fit in, or did you celebrate your uniqueness? Discuss a time when you felt embarrassed or ashamed of your family. Food is important because it is often cultural. What we eat or how we eat says a lot about our identify and our background. What unique/cultural dishes does your family like to eat? (Examples: wild game, ethnic dishes like Italian or German foods, regional dishes like southern or country-style foods, delicacies, etc.)

“Fish Cheeks” by Amy Tan Annotation Guide: You need THREE different colors (highlighters or markers or pencils or pens). Make a key on top of your paper: Pick one color to represent facts/literal information that Amy Tan tells us. Pick one color to represent emotions/feelings of Amy Tan. Pick one color to represent figurative language. While Reading: Annotate with your three colors. Make notes in the margins to explain what you’re highlighting/underling.

After Reading Answer the questions about the story “Fish Cheeks.” Read the “Response to Literature” essay and follow the directions in the margins for each paragraph.
