L3 Pattern 1A S V ; however, S V . Outcomes: Explore sentence pattern and conjunctive adverbs Apply learning to sentence patterns Construct sentences using rules Quiz pupils as to what the S and V stand for. Identify the punctuation and where it sits Quiz as to conjunctions and adverbs and thus what a conjunctive adverb is, show image of them – just a big scary word as they know these words and how to use them

PATTERN 1A S V ; however, S V . Use a conjunctive adverb (connective): however, hence, therefore, thus, then, moreover, nevertheless, likewise, consequently, or accordingly. The comma after the connective is optional; however, I recommend using one if you use a polysyllabic conjunctive adverb.

Pattern 1A Examples: David had worked in the steaming jungle for two years without leave; hence, he was tired almost beyond endurance. This gadget won’t work; therefore, you shouldn’t buy it.

Complete the following by adding a conjunctive Adverb (connective) Hester couldn’t go away for her holiday; _______________, she managed to have a good time at home. Jack knows all about computers; ________________, he helped me chose a good one. Now create 1 of your own. Swap with someone – did they remember the punctuation? Does it make sense. Make any corrections. however, hence, therefore, thus, then, moreover, nevertheless, likewise, consequently, or accordingly.
