Figure 4 Fluorescence Labeling Experiments A Cymbomonas cell after 3 hr incubation with DAPI-labeled bacteria. Arrows indicate engulfed bacterial cells that are being transported in the duct channel. The posterior vacuole (v) is weakly fluorescing, probably because of its very low pH, under which DAPI signal is not stable. Note that DAPI fluorescence, which is originally blue, is changed to pink using Photoshop to aid visual clarity in the overlaid image. Scale bar represents 10 μm.
