What are rhyming words? Mrs. Taylor

Rhyming words In this lesson we are going to: Learn what rhyming words are. Spot rhyming words in a book. Watch a video on rhyming words. Complete a worksheet on rhyming words.

What is it? Who can tell me what a rhyming word is? Rhyming words are words that have the same ending sounds.

Lets practice some rhyming words Lets all try these as a group. Raise your hand if you know what rhymes with snail?

Rhyming words Remember that rhyming words are words that have the same ending. So they have the same sounds. How big is a pig? Does this rhyme? How big is a chicken? What about this?

Rhyming words Lets watch a video of the book How Big is a Pig? Pay attention to the words and see if you can spot the rhyming words. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdEoQ7lJvmk

Rhyming words Some hens are in; some hens are out. But how big is a pig? What’s this all about? This is a page from the book we just watched. Do out and about rhyme? Why? Did anyone else see any other rhyming words in the book?

Rhyming words I am going to hand out a worksheet for you to practice on your rhyming words. You will carefully use your scissors and cut each word out and glue them, using your glue sticks, under the word that you think it rhymes with. When you are done, please put the tops to your glue sticks back on and clean your area. Raise your hand when you are finished and I will call you to my desk and look at your work.
