Learning Map for Yellow Class: Summer 1 2015 Rumble in the Jungle Please encourage your child to read each day Learning Map for Yellow Class: Summer 1 2015 Rumble in the Jungle Home Learning set on Tuesdays and due back the following Mondays Children to learn about rainforest plants and their uses including foods, medicines and shelter. Children to research animals of the rainforest and their habitats. Chn to become the people of the forest. Creating a small village through role play. Children to learn about and plot the journeys of explorers Christopher Columbus and Amerigo Vespucci. Chn to practise basic map reading skills. The children will learn to correctly spell the 1st 100 high frequency words. Problems to be based around rainforest theme. Rainforest explorers In the Rainforest Art Children to focus on the layered artwork of Henri Rousseau. The children will create many layers for their forest art including the forest floor, canopy and the plants and animals you would expect to find there. Yellow Class Rainforest explores Growing plants Art focus- Henri Rousseau Rainforest Phonics Literacy We will be including many rainforest themes into our writing this half term. The children will be writing fact files and information texts as well as forest based stories. We will be using writing/ story teller APPs to enhance our understanding. Role Play Maths RE Science! Ms Griffin will be teaching the children all about Baptism. The children might even get a chance to visit the church to have our class baby baptised! A rainforest corner filled with animals, sounds, smells and even some deadly plants! Chn to have various writing tasks such as: adventurers diary entries, fact file writing, topic word mats and artefacts to inspire free writing. Chn to have small world of rainforest to practises skills such as storytelling, sorting and classifying and problem solving. All children will be growing a plant from seed. We will find out what a plant needs to grow. Each child will monitor their plants progress daily noting any changes. We will be making mini green houses to grow different plants and testing the effect of water deprivation on a growing plant. Children to learn about map reading and co-ordinates. Children to create their own rainforest based word problems for a friend to solve. Children will focus on times tables as well as subtraction, addition, multiplication and division. Trip to Kew Gardens during Summer Term
