Symbiosis A relationship where two organisms (of different species) live together.
Organisms can interact in different ways.
Species Interaction Symbiosis. Symbiosis Means “living together” Interaction between two species where at least one benefits – Some organisms are permanently.

Ecological Interactions
Ecological Relationships. Competition and Predation Competition – occurs when organisms of the same or different species attempt to use an ecological.
Mutualism Both species benefit “+ +” relationship Examples – Ants protect aphids that provide them food – Clown fish / sea anemones.

*Refer to Chapter 16 in your Textbook. Learning Goals: 1. I can describe interactions that occur in a community. 2. I can differentiate between the types.
Aim: How do symbiotic relationships differ? DO NOW 1.Describe what you see in this image. 2.Do you think this fish is being harmed? Explain why or why.

Symbiosis….61

The act of living together Symbiosis

A relationship between two organisms where they both benefit. win-win Ex. Anemone and clownfish Mutualism Gobi hides in the anemone for protection, the clown fish scares away butterfly fish that eat the tentacles of the anemone.

Commensalism One species benefits while the second species remains unaffected. Win-neutral Ex. Shark and Remora

Parasites feed off of a HOST where one organism benefits while the other is harmed. Win-lose Ex. Flea Tapeworm Parasitism Tapeworms attach themselves to the insides of the intestines of humans. They get food by eating the host's partly digested food, depriving the host of nutrients. Parasites feed off of a HOST

Predator - Prey A predator is an organism that eats another organism. The prey is the organism which the predator eats Lion-Zebra

Competition demand by two or more organisms for an environmental resource in short supply (food, space)
