Children In Care

How many visits are being made a month? What are some of your challenges? Hot Topics Focus on placing children within the county Focus on placement with kin when possible Presentation on Child in Need

Placing Young Children 3-2-1 Rule No more than 3 children under 3 - This is a Kenny A standard No more than 2 children under 2 - This is State policy No more than 1 child under 1 – This is our Regional best practice (it had been 1 child under 2 after a few CPS/accidents but we agreed to adhere to State policy and assess these type of placement decisions case by case) For no more than 1 child under 1, placement workers can staff these cases to determine if placing more than one child is appropriate (ie. number of care givers in the home, experience with infants, daycare arrangements, child's needs, sleeping arrangements, etc) Staff will need to get county approval for placing more than one child under one in a home but a waiver is not needed. For more than 3 under 3 or 2 under 2, a waiver will need to be signed.

Challenging Placements Every Child Deserves… A place to reside while in care An opportunity to receive treatment We need to agree that: Youth can be rehabilitated Individuals do change and grow especially youth Everyone has strengths Denial Reasons must be specific to the child and information presented

What additional information is helpful that is not currently being provided? Other suggestions to assisting with getting challenging youth placed
