CHAMBERLAIN & APPEASEMENT 7 Key examples of Appeasement pre-Chamberlain 1925 Locarno Pact - Britain accepts renegotiation of T of V (spirit of co-operation/golden Years) 1932 Ending reparations - Britain accepts that debt is too harsh - debt cancelled

1932 - Geneva Disarmament Conference - Britain supported the idea of allowing Germany controlled re-armament (France objected) Up to 1936 Britain worked through the League of Nations 1935 - Anglo-German Naval Agreement - Britain accepted that Germany would rearm anyway

1935 Hoare Laval Pact over Abyssinian Crisis 1935 Hoare Laval Pact over Abyssinian Crisis. Britain accepted that Italy could not be stopped - tried to do a deal in secret because British interests in neighbouring countries affected, to avoid war with Italy. 1936 Rhineland Crisis - Britain accepted that terms of T of V were too harsh again and that Germany had a case for going “into her own backyard”
