What is annotation? Annotation is the act of making a note, responding to a text while you are reading. Reading with your pencil. Having a conversation with your text.
Why annotate? Ever find yourself mindlessly reading? Reading a really challenging text with difficult vocabulary? Annotation helps you as a reader: -To make connections with the text (text to text, text to world, text to movie, etc) -Look up challenging words to get a deeper understanding of your text. - To read more critically and get more from the text.
What do I need to annotate? Pencil to write comments, observations, unfamiliar words, etc. Inner Voice Codes Sheet: KEEP ALL YEAR LONG IN YOUR READING BINDER Reading Response Sheet: IF the text was not provided for you on a sheet you can write on. DO NOT write in your novels!! Sticky Notes: Mark your pages and spots you would like to return back to as you read.
