Audience, Purpose, and Message Reading Strategies Audience, Purpose, and Message

Audience Who the text is intended for The people who view, listen, or read a text Creators of text always have a specific audience in mind To determine the intended audience, look at the demographics (age, gender, etc.) of the people in the text.

Purpose The reason a text has been created There are many reasons texts are created but the main purposes of media texts are: To entertain To inform To sell or persuade

Message What is the text trying to tell you? EXPLICIT MESSAGE: What the text directly tells you IMPLICIT MESSAGE The hidden message that is not directly stated

Courage to try Assignment Your poster must include: A quotation encouraging young people to never give up! Images, font, and color to support the message. The use of contrast to support the message Posters must be neatly presented. We will work on posters during Thursday and Friday’s classes (September 22 & 23) Create a poster encouraging young people to keep trying in the face of failure.
