Cells The Basic Units of Life

Two types of cells 1. Prokaryotic – cells that do not have a nucleus Example: Bacteria 2. Eukaryotic – cells that have a nucleus Example: Almost all cells other than bacteria.

Prokaryotic vs. eukaryotic

Cell –smallest unit that can carry on all life processes All living things have at least one cell Humans have about 200 different types of cells. Tissue- a group of cells that work together to perform a specific job in the body. Examples: Blood, Fat, and Muscle

Organ- two or more tissues working together to perform a specific job. Example: Heart, Lung, and Kidney

Organ Systems- organs working together in groups to perform particular jobs. Example: Digestive System and Circulatory System

Organism- anything that can live on its own. Unicellular Organism – an organism that is single celled. Multi-cellular Organism – an organism that is made up of two or more cells. Organism Circulatory System
