Fingerprints By: Angie Guryanov

Are fingerprinted patterns created randomly or are they influenced by genetics?

I chose this topic because it is very challenging and it is something that was recommended to me. It sounds very interesting and it is something that I personally would like to test. I think this is very exciting.

Hypothesis If I test whose fingerprints would be more similar to mine related or unrelated then related will have more similar fingerprints than unrelated.

Variables Independant: fingerprints of relatives and friends Dependant: the pattern of fingerprints to my fingerprints Constants:ink used, tape used, paper used

Procedures gather materials gather people(me,related or unrelated) moist finger in ink print finger on paper repeat with unrelated people and myself after repeated compare your fingerprints to the others(see which group’s fingerprints are more similar to yours)

Data part 2 related unrelated

Concluded Are fingerprinted patterns created randomly or are the influenced by genetics? I gathered 4 people(2 related 2 unrelated). Then I printed their fingerprints on a sheet of white paper. Then I printed my fingerprint. After that I compared the 2 groups to mine. After that I found out that related are more similar to mine. The data was simple, the people who are related to me had a bigger similarity than unrelated. My data is supported by my hypothesis because related people had more similar fingerprints than unrelated I learned that fingerprints are influenced by genetics. Next time I would try to get
