Huck Finn Feud! Chapters 17 and 18

What famous story does the Grangerford/Sheperdson Feud echo? What is the basic story of these feuds? How does Twain also allude to romantic poetry in these chapters? Does he seem to like it? How does he use Tom Sawyer to reference romantic literature? How does Twain seem to feel about this type of literature based on these examples?

Romeo and Juliet Families hate each other and children fall in love and elope. The Grangerford daughter writes poetry which is displayed around the house. Twain seems to find it rather “cheesy.” Tom is always saying things like this is how it’s done in the books. His adventures stem from these stories. Twain seems to feel that society expects this literature to be true and basis their lives on such ideas.
