Presentation transcript:

1/22/15 Warm-up #1 Pop artist Andy Warhol once said that in the future, every person will experience fifteen minutes of fame in his or her lifetime. The advent of reality TV, among other phenomena, has certainly made many average people briefly famous. What do you think would make you famous for fifteen minutes? Consider your own skills, ambition, and geographic location. ONE PARAGRAPH: Begin with a topic sentence and write at least five sentences all together.

11 B Writing Warm-up #2 The “nature versus nurture” debate refers to the question of what influences us the most. Some scientists believe that nature (inherited genetic characteristics) shapes us as people. Others believe that nurture (our upbringing and other social influences) shapes us. What do you think? Do you think that genetics determine what we will become, or do the people and things around us have a greater influence? ONE PARAGRAPH: Begin with a topic sentence and write at least five sentences all together.

1/27/15 WARM-UP #3 Write a paragraph response to this “Franken-mosquito”. Is this something to be concerned about? Don’t species always evolve? What interventions can be done? Write a paragraph with a topic sentence and five sentences all together.

11 B Writing Warm-up #5 When you confide in a friend, you hope he or she will keep your secret. Do you think there are some secrets you should not keep for a friend? Or do you think that it’s always better to keep our promise and tell no one about your friend’s secret, even if someone’s in danger? ONE PARAGRAPH: Begin with a topic sentence and write at least five sentences all together.

11 B Writing Warm-up #6 Parents and children often claim to be misunderstood by each other. Explain one thing you think our parents (or other people their age) don’t understand about your generation. Then explain one thing you think your parents would say your generation doesn’t understand about them. ONE PARAGRAPH: Begin with a topic sentence and write at least five sentences all together.

11 B Writing Warm-up #7 Some people think that we can be as happy as we decide to be. Others believe that events and circumstances beyond our control determine how happy we will be. Still others think that there are happy people who effortlessly maintain their sunny outlook no matter what happens, and unhappy people who usually feel depressed no matter what happens. What do you think? Is happiness something you can work at, or is it beyond your control? ONE PARAGRAPH: Begin with a topic sentence and write at least five sentences all together.

2/9/15 WARM – UP #8 What is the most important quote in the novel so far? Write it/Cite it/and Explain Remember, your explanation must be a paragraph – having at least five sentences.

2/11/15 Warm up #9 From what you’ve learned through direct and indirect characterization so far in the novel, how would you characterize Victor Frankenstein? REMEMBER, your five sentence paragraph must begin with a topic sentence. TOMORROW – ALL WRITING WARM-UPS ARE DUE. BE SURE TO MAKE UP ANY THAT YOU MAY HAVE MISSED WHILE OUT OF CLASS.
