Aim: students will be able to develop an understanding of the states of consciousness Terms to know (copy) TERM DEFINITION Conscious Level The information about yourself and your environment that you are currently aware of. Ex: focusing on these words and their meaning Nonconscious Level Body processes that we are not usually (or ever aware of) Ex: heartbeat Preconscious Level Information about yourself or your environment that you are not currently thinking about, but could be Ex: favorite toy as a child Subconscious Level Information that we are not consciously aware of but know must exist due to behavior Unconscious Level Some events are repressed into the unconscious mind Ex: traumatic experience
