The prairie dog is a mammal that lives in North America. The prairie dog is a small mammal that is brown with a long tail. It is short with long fingers. It has big eyes, small ears and whiskers.

The description of the habitat . Prairie dogs only live in North America. They live in tunnels or burrows. Halfway down is a shelf where they can hide.

The life cycle. The babies are allowed to sleep at other homes. In fact they can visit other coteries. The parents play with the babies.

The food chain. A prairie dog’s typical meal is grass or a greenery. They bite close to the ground so they don’t get pricked. Coyotes and hawks eat prairie dogs.

Interesting facts They only live in North America. A coterie or colony is a group of prairie dogs. They are highly sociable. One prairie dog coterie in Texas had about 400,000,000.
