Unit Assessment: 5 Paragraph Essay After researching academic sources in the library on Women’s History, write a report that defines “feminism” and describes the goals and strategies of “first wave feminists” and “second wave feminists.” Support your discussion with evidence from your research.

Your thesis statement starts the outline for your paper. Monday’s are superior to every other day of the week because they provide a fresh start to the week and people are well rested and motivated for success. Main Idea 1: Fresh Start support, support, support Main Idea 2: Well Rested People Main Idea 3: Motivated

Thesis Statement This is where you define feminism and inform the reader you’ll be supporting your definition with examples from 1st and 2nd wave feminism.

Feminism Equality, Fairness, Equal Opportunity . . . . In what areas? Social Political Economic Educational Family Workplace Rights And on and on . . . . . Throughout (history, 1st and 2nd wave feminism, time) feminists have worked to address these issues . . .

Finding Sources Once you know the main topics you’re going to focus on regarding feminism, you can use the books we’ve collected to pull out specific examples, quotes, success stories, etc. Be sure to document the bibliographic info you’re using so the works cited will be easier.

Is my thesis statement concise and clear? Did I follow my outline? Did I miss anything? Are my arguments presented in a logical sequence? Are all sources properly cited to ensure that I am not plagiarizing? Have I proved my thesis with strong supporting arguments? Have I made my intentions and points clear in the essay? Did I begin each paragraph with a proper topic sentence? Have I supported my arguments with documented proof or examples? Any run-on or unfinished sentences? Any unnecessary or repetitious words? Varying lengths of sentences? Does one paragraph or idea flow smoothly into the next? Any spelling or grammatical errors? Quotes accurate in source, spelling, and punctuation? Are all my citations accurate and in correct format? Did I avoid using contractions? Use "cannot" instead of "can't", "do not" instead of "don't"? Did I use third person as much as possible? Avoid using phrases such as "I think", "I guess", "I suppose“ Have I made my points clear and interesting but remained objective? Did I leave a sense of completion for my reader(s) at the end of the paper?
