“It Is a Good Morning Exercise for a Research Scientist to Discard a Pet Hypothesis Every Day Before Breakfast: It Keeps Him Young” (Konrad Lorenz, 1903–1989)  John P. Iredale, Antonella Pellicoro  Gastroenterology  Volume 140, Issue 5, Pages 1395-1398 (May 2011) DOI: 10.1053/j.gastro.2011.03.025 Copyright © 2011 AGA Institute Terms and Conditions

Figure 1 Myofibroblasts recruited from activated hepatic stellate cells and other elements secrete fibrillar collagens (I and III) and other matrix components in liver fibrosis. LOX and transglutaminases cross-link and stabilize this collagen which concurrently makes it less susceptible to degradation by matrix metalloproteinases and other enzymes. The work presented by Popov et al provides an opportunity to understand the biological role of the ubiquitous TG2.
