Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) (Institution of the East African Community) OVERVIEW OF EASTRIP PROJECT PREPARATORY ADVANCE EASTRIP APPRAISAL WORKSHOP 4 – 8 June Nairobi Kenya

Inter-University Council For East Africa (IUCEA) An institution of the East African Community (EAC) responsible for coordinating the development of higher education and research, whose roles include: Advising the EAC Partner States on higher education matters Facilitating networking among higher education institutions in the EAC Partner States, and with external institutions Facilitating maintenance of quality standards and harmonization of higher education systems for promoting regional integration. Providing support for the development of higher education systems and research. Me, journalist with THES etc. Conversations with Manuel Castells to appear in Korean in 2006.

Role of IUCEA … Coordinating inter-university student exchange between EAC Partner States Coordinating mobility of academic staff between EAC Partner States as short-term visiting lecturers, external examiners and research collaborators. In undertaking its roles IUCEA works in close collaboration with the national commissions/councils for university/higher education in the EAC Partner States: Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and South Sudan

United for Knowledge and Prosperity ACE II PROJECT 2016 - 2021 IUCEA is the Regional Facilitation Unit (RFU) of the Eastern and Southern African Centers of Excellence (ACE II), which include 24 ACEs in 8 countries (Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia) The Project Development Objectives (PDO) for ACE II is to establish and strengthen specialization and collaboration among a network of higher education institutions in the Eastern and Southern Africa region to deliver relevant and quality education and applied research to address key development challenges facing the region. The focus areas of ACE II include STEM, STI , Education and Statistics. 5/22/2019 United for Knowledge and Prosperity

Office space for EASTRIP project staff available for sharing with ACE II Regional Steering Committee constituted Draft ToRs of the RSC developed due for consideration by the 1st RSC meeting Support to Centers to finalize SIPs through the 3rd Appraisal and capacity Building workshops held in Nairobi 4th to 8th June 2018 Experts organized to review the SIPs Experts on the project Environmental and Social Management Plans(ESMP) to be hired. 5/22/2019 United for Knowledge and Prosperity

Regional Steering Committee (RSC) Function: T o provide overall oversight on the implementation of the project. Membership Representatives of ministries or authorities responsible for technical and vocational training of the participating countries, The EAC secretariat Representatives of private sector. Representation of the development partners from outside the region (China, South Korea and Germany.) The executive secretary of iucea, secretary of eastrip rsc.
