The Multiplication Table Grade 6 Patterning Unit

Why do you think the multiplication table is useful?

What is Multiplication? Multiplication is related to addition. It's a quick way of adding the same number many times. If you have four numbers that are the same, such as 3 + 3 + 3 + 3, you can multiply them. How would you write 3+3+3+3 in a multiplication sentence?

Factors and Products In multiplication, you have factors and products. In 4x3=12, which is the factor and which is the product?

Factors and Products In 4x3=12, 4 and 3 are the factors and 12 is the product.

What is Multiplication Table A multiplication table is a tool used to determine the product of two numbers. You do this by finding where the two numbers intersect in the table.

Navigating the Multiplication Table To navigate the multiplication table, you begin at the top of the table, then you move down. The point where the top and bottom meet, is your result.

Practise! What is 12x4

What is a pattern?

Pattern Defined A pattern can defined as things that are arranged using one or more rule.

Where can you see patterns in the Multiplication chart?

Task - Following patterns and using rules, fill out the Multiplication table on the handout provided

Homework - Write out and memorise the 3, 4, and 6 times tables up to 12. - Be prepared for a quiz ;)
