The Constitution

Purpose of a Constitution Show what people in that country believe Explain how the government will work and what powers the government will have Provide the law

Highest Law The laws in the constitution beat all other laws

Preamble Part of the constitution Tells what the goals for the country are

Framework Tells how the government will work Will have a president? Or a King? Will have courts? Will have congress? All this information in the framework

Can Constitutions be changed or added to? Yes Constitutions are incomplete Constitutions cannot tell everything about the government Laws can be added Changes can be made

Do all governments have a constitution? YES! BUT…. Not all constitutions are written down

A constitution makes the government and gives the plan for the government
