Lab Safety

Lab Safety Begins Before You Go to the Lab! Rules: Wear clothing that covers and closed toe, non-slip shoes. Pull back and secure long hair. Wash hands.

Lab Safety while in the lab! Rules: Wear protective gloves, eyewear, and lab coat to protect clothing or exposed skin. Do not eat, drink, or chew gum in or around the lab. Wash hands. Read all directions carefully and follow all procedures.

Lab Safety after lab investigation! Rules: Clean up area carefully. Dispose of chemicals and other materials properly. Handle glassware with a firm grip and always walk. Unplug all electrical lab equipment and turn off any gas.

Lab Safety in the field! Rules: Plan ahead. Tell an adult where you will be and go with others. Wear appropriate clothing for the investigation. Plan for weather changes that could effect the investigation.
