Air Masses (Peso de Aire) and Weather (Tiempo). Weather influences our lives every day. It helps us determine: What we wear Whether our airplane is delayed.

U.S. Air Masses

Air Masses Large body of air (1,000 miles wide, 4-5 miles high) that have same temp/moisture High/Low pressure systems and jet stream move air masses c  continental (land) m  maritime (water) P  Polar, A Artic), T  Tropical

Continental Polar and Artic (cP, cA) Comes from Canada, Alaska, Artic Bitter cold/ dry in winter (cA) Cool/ dry in summer (cP) clear skies Lake-effect snow

Continental Tropical (cT) Comes from Southwest and Mexico Hot and dry

Maritime Tropical (mT) Comes from Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean, Southern Pacific Warm, a lot of moisture, unstable (storms/hurricanes)

Comes from North Pacific, North Atlantic Maritime Polar (mP) Comes from North Pacific, North Atlantic Cool and Moist Low clouds/showers/snow in mountains

Pg. 84 in NB, Draw and label the 5 different air masses on map
