TMS-580 Various TMS2CRS Troubleshooting Calibration details News

Interfacing TMS to ABB CRS 1. Variant: Using SW Interface TMS2CRS The TMS Data are converted to CRS format by the TMS2CRS SW Interface, then they have to be input into the CRS. The TMS2CRS SW Interface is recommended to be installed in the TMS directory of the TMS-PC. The SW-Interface TMS2CRS is available from Haefely free of charge. Converted data, ready for CRS-input User Interface of the TMS2CRS conversion SW

Interfacing TMS to ABB-CRS 2. Variant: CRS-SW running on TMS-PC, with NI-IEEE-Board installed The TMS is controlled directly by the CRS-SW, installed on the TMS-PC. The IEEE-Board in the TMS PC has to be exchanged to an NI Type instead of a Keithley one (default). This variant had been tested at ABB Cordoba, approx. 2 years ago. 3. Variant: CRS-SW running on a Host, control of TMS about NETWORK The TMS is controlled from a HOST-PC via NET. In the TMS-PC a Network board and a NI-IEEE-Interface Board has to be installed. This variant has not been tested until now, but proposed to ABB Lodz March 2004

Troubleshooting TMS-580 1.Variant 1: Unit Level Whole units like voltage- and current channels are exchanged. Options: a. The customer holds a voltage and current channel as spare part on stock. Immediately available. b. The necessary unit is ordered on demand. Delivery, approx. 1-2weeks Remarks: Troubleshooting can be done by customer itself, but calibration is necessary, especially voltage channel. A factory calibration is possible. 2.Variant 2: Board Level Whole boards are exchanged after finding the faulty unit. (only for current channel) a. The customer holds various boards as spare part on stock. Immediately available. b. The necessary board is ordered on demand. Delivery, approx. 1-2weeks Remarks: Troubleshooting can be done by customer itself, but mostly supported by Haefely. 3.Variant 3: Component Level Single components are exchanged. a. The customer holds various components as spare part on stock. Immediately available. b. The necessary component is ordered on demand. Delivery, approx. 1-2weeks Remarks: Sometimes it is not so easy to find the bad component. Needs skilled personal and/or support by Haefely. Recommendations: -If high system availability is necessary, Variant 1a or a mixure of 1a and 2a is recommended, otherwise Variant 1b and/ or a mixture of 1b and 2b. -Variant 3a may be recommended if skilled manpower is ensured.

List of some „known“ problems occured Troubleshooting TMS 580 List of some „known“ problems occured 1.Voltage channel: Bad range relais (OVLD) Bad range capacitor (Selftest failed) 2.Current channel: Bad Tantal capacitor in +-15V supply (selftest failed) Bad IC placed on inputline from CT (OVLD) 3.Various: Defective IEEE-Interface either, in voltage or current channel (Impulse test ?) Connection problem in the Wattmeter (Selftest failed) Connection problem in the cabling to the Wattmeter (OVLD) Remarks: Only problem 1.1 and 3.1 happend more than once, the other occured stochasticaly 2. OVLD in voltage channel may also happen if somewhere Partial Discharge exist. Software: Current version V.2.95 - Improvement in communication with the Wattmeter - Small bugs had been elliminated

TMS-CT and PT error declaration (for CRS..) Calibration details TMS-CT and PT error declaration (for CRS..) Conventional CT‘s and PT‘s For conventional CT‘s and PT‘s the Test Certificate declares a certain value, for example: Phase error= +1.5min.@100% , and gives the according uncertainty f.e. +_0.2min. This value (+1.5min) is then used for correction purpose. For worst case calculations the uncertainty has to be taken into account accordingly. TMS-CT‘s and PT‘s The CTs and PT‘s are calibrated for „Zero Error“, in magnitude and phase. This means, for correction purpose „Zero“ had to be filled into the calculation formula. But of course there always exist a residual error, however this migth be positiv or negativ as well as the uncertainty is positiv or negativ. For worst case calculations therefore the residual error and the uncertainity value had to be taken into account in same manner. The residual error and the uncertainty can be found in the Test Certificate of the TMS. Remark: The TMS Test Certificate contains all the calculations and shows the combined system error. The above explanations are given only in case the calculation wanted to be done separately for example after a factory defined procedure.

Recommended calibration interval Calibration details Recommended calibration interval Wattmeter For the Wattmeter NORMA recommends a recalibration cycle of 2 years. Current transducer CT Since the current transducer ( CT + Current channel) doesn‘t have any aging parts influencing the accuracy, it can be considerd like a Standard Current Comparator (from Tettex) . For this type a recalibration cycle of 5 years is recommended by PTB. Voltage transducer PT Up to now only smal variation had be found during up to 4year periode. In connection with the Wattmeter, Tettex recommends a 2 year recalibration cycle. Remarks: The above mentioned recalibration cycles are recommendations by Tettex only. Final decision for a recalibration may depend on country specific, factory specific recommendations and /or other parameter, like replacement/exchange of parts as result of break down etc.
