SOFT SLAB CONSTRUCTION

SLAB Method of CONSTRUCTION: technique of building ceramic forms by constructing flat pieces of clay. Soft slabs can be used to wrap around molds.

Slump Mold: any object that soft clay is pressed into to create a specific shape

Impressing: Surface treatment created by pressing a textured object or material into the clay

Drape Mold: a support that holds a clay slab in a certain shape until it stiffens

Darting

Sling Mold: a suspended, secured cloth that holds clay until form is stiff.

Maquette: Preliminary clay or 3D sketches that can reveal building or joining problems
