Argument Building AVID 10 1/18/2017

Daily Reading and Writing Respond to the following prompt. When you are done, please read your silent reading material. What has been the best lesson you have ever had in school? This can be from any grade level. Discuss what the lesson was, why it was so impactful, and what you took away from the lesson.

Read Aloud Read the article aloud If students agree with a particular statement, they should take a step forward. They may take multiple steps forward or no steps forward at all.

Annotations Read the article on your own and make the following annotations. Circle: Unknown Words Underline in Blue: Content that you agree with Underline in Red: Content that you disagree with Write two questions off to the side Challenge the author’s point Request additional information Connect the topic to your life, the world around you, etc. If you finish reading before everyone is done, please read your silent reading material, or find a quiet and productive activity to complete.

Jigsaw Gist Divide into groups Create a summary of your section in 7 words. Share with the class. In your groups, create a summary of the entire article in 15 words.
