Create an artwork that explores what the idea of dreams means to you Project #1--Dreams Create an artwork that explores what the idea of dreams means to you

Requirements for project You have your choice of 3 mediums (or any combination of the 3) Paper Linocut Printmaking Watercolor Explore, research, practice, and plan ideas in sketchbook Must explore the concept/idea of DREAMS Must demonstrate an exploration and use of the mediums that goes BEYOND the basic introduction and practice--TECHNIQUE For example, if doing linocut printmaking, explore the reduction process in order to get multiple colors in your prints

ELEMENTS OF ART LINE—a connection of points, the outline of a shape SHAPE—a 2 dimensional object that occupies space, can be geometric (circle, square, triangle) or organic (leaf, octopus, hand) FORM—a 3 dimensional object that shows height, width, and depth (sphere, box, pyramid) SPACE—the area between and around objects, also refers to the feeling of depth COLOR—used to create emotion, define importance, create visual interest VALUE—lights and darks, shadows and highlights TEXTURE—how something feels, how something looks like it feels

PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN EMPHASIS—the focal point in a work of art CONTRAST—differences in elements, making things stand out from another BALANCE—a distribution of visual weight on either side of the vertical axis REPETITION—repetition of elements RHYTHM—regular repetition of elements, creates a visual ‘beat’ MOVEMENT—how the eye moves through the art, can also create the illusion of action UNITY/HARMONY—visually pleasing arrangement of elements, all things work together
