Investigating Issues SIDES

SIDES S - State the Issue I - Identify the Stakeholder D - Determine the Viewpoint E - Evaluate the Viewpoints S - State your opinion

S – State the Issue Make it a clear statement It can be: economic (e.g. how is money earned and spent as a part of travel and tourism), Cultural (e.g. the relationships among groups of people, including tourists and their hosts) Social (e.g. how a society functions, who makes decisions, who has influence, and how these factors affect travel and tourism)

State the Issue con’t Environmental (the relationship between humans and the natural environment) Political (how decisions are made in tourist areas)

Identify the Stakeholder Who will be affected by the issue? There must be at least two people with differing views Practice activity: Identify the stakeholders

Determine the Viewpoints Once the stakeholders have been identified, you need to identify their viewpoints. Assess what the FACTS are around the issue. Activity: Fact vs Opinion and don’t forget Bias

Evaluate the Viewpoints WHY did the stakeholders say Yes or No? Has the viewpoint been presented honestly and with facts? Have holders of this view been fair in their use of evidence? Who will benefit if this viewpoint succeeds? Who will be harmed if this viewpoint succeeds?

State Your Opinion State your opinion and WHY!!! Support your opinion iwht evidence, facts, and credible opinions (experts in the field) You may need to do more research

The End 
