How did people cope with the Blitz?

Those with a back garden were encouraged to build Anderson shelters and to cover them with earth to help absorb the impact of flying debris.

Morrison shelters were used or people were encouraged to take shelter in the space under their stairs.

Brick built public shelters were built.

People spent the night in underground stations in London People spent the night in underground stations in London. On the platforms and on the tracks!
