FISH BOWL Fun!

Step One: Choose a Topic Our topic will be debating who was better: Perón or Vargas. In your group, divide amongst yourselves as to who will support Vargas and who will support Perón

Step Two: Prepare Take NOTES from our textbook, ppts, and handouts DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH in order to make valid arguments and have ammunition against your opponent. You need to know about BOTH men, not just the one you are supporting. Highlight main points, or important quotes you can use (AND CITE THEM)

Good Advice… Since you are debating the two men, it would be a GOOD IDEA to make a chart of their successes and failures Don’t wait until the last minute Come prepared to talk, even if you don’t like talking.

The Fish Bowl 4-5 people are in a group The class has 5 desks pushed together in the middle of the room, with the surrounding desks circling them For 10 minutes, the group will debate each other on their topic while the rest of class takes notes on their main ideas. After 10 minutes, the class will ask the group questions relating to the debate, based on what they said (OR LEFT OUT)

Fish Bowl Grades Knowledge: What main points did you bring up? Synthesis: How did you use your sources to create arguments and counterpoints, AND how you used the debates from other groups to create thoughtful questions. Application: How well you paid attention and summarized the main points from the other groups?

Fish Bowl You will be graded on your discussion as the Fish Bowl goes on, NOT THE NOTES YOU CREATE FOR IT You will be graded on the notes you take on the OTHER GROUPS and the QUESTIONS you write down Earn extra credit for asking other groups questions

Economic Policies: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Social Policies: Treatment of Opp: Populist Leader: Impact on Indust/Nationalism As a totalitarian leader…

Economics: discuss anything that relates to economic policies domestic and foreign Social: Impacts on women, labor, the people Treatment of Opp: Estado Novo vs. Justicialismo Populist Leader: Define what a populist leader is and prove yours is more pop than the other Indust/Nationalism: Who was better at industrializing their country and instilling and using nationalism Totalitarianism: define what a totalitarian leader looks like and who was more totalitarian.
