Year 9 History Britain in the New World September 15, 2015. Learning Gain: All learners will explore British colonisation of the New World using historical thinking skills. Today we will: Locate areas where Britain explored Read and analyse a historical narrative Create and respond to historical inquiries Think critically about historical events/issues/people Discuss the ethics of British imperial actions

Year 9 History Britain in the New World Acadia is a term referring to the area that is now the Canadian provinces of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, and parts of the North-Eastern state of Maine in the United States. Two main countries tried to colonise this area. Can you guess which two? Why would this have been an important location for these countries? In this lesson, you will read a historical narrative about the British experience in Acadia. This is a fictional story, but it is based on the actual events that took place in the area. Before reading, what information do we need to find out about Britain in Acadia?
