A toast to Peter the Great By Nicholas Crum

Background Information Peter the great was the czar of Russia in the late 18th Century. His heir to the throne was Elizabeth I. One of his main policies was to be able to choose who the heir to the throne would be

Accomplishments He was one of the most influential Russian czars to have ruled Established Russia as a great and powerful nation Modernized/westernized Russia for the 18th century Expanded/improved Russia’s millitary

Russian Westernization Peter wanted to bring the technology from western Europe into Russia Seeked out a warm-water port so Russia could have trade year-round and not just when the water wasn’t frozen He trained his army with European methods and skills Changed the way farmers planted crops from the traditional method to using westernized technology

Expanding Russian Borders Peter the Great wanted to show that Russia had power He did this by showing off his army’s power in expanding Russia’s western borders

Making of a Great Nation Among other accomplishments, the most impactful thing that Peter the great did was reform the system of government that Russia had at the time. He reformed the feudal system in Russia These reforms have resonated through Russian history and are some of the policies that the modern Russian Government has today

Why he should be praised Peter the Great should be praised as one of Russia’s most He led Russia into the modern age and established it as a great nation His effects on the governmental system of Russia can be tied into what the Russian government is today.
